The duet is a secondhand story with your face in the corner.
Reaction video culture does not just comment on the clip. It replaces the clip as the thing people think they saw.

A lot of the internet now watches other people watch. The original video is a rectangle. The larger rectangle is a stranger’s eyebrows. By the time the thing reaches your relatives, they can describe the eyebrows better than the event.
This is not automatically stupid. A good reaction is criticism in real time: a comedian naming the fake, a lawyer pausing a contract, a stunt person saying that fall was a camera trick. A bad reaction is a gas leak of ‘oh my god’ that adds no information and still collects the ad.
How to use a duet as a source
You cannot. You can use it as a claim about what a second person felt. The original remains the original. If the original is missing — taken down, region-locked, never posted — say you are working from a copy of a copy. Do not write as if you were in the room.
The money
Platforms like duets because they double inventory: two faces, two comment sections, two chances you stay. Creators like them because the first clip did the expensive part (being interesting). A magazine that only embeds the second face is in the same cheap business.
If we cover a reaction, we will name what is being reacted to, whether that source is still up, and whether the reaction added a fact. If it added only a face, it is not a story. It is a mirror.
